PlayStation 3 Wireless Six axis Controller
The Play Station 3 wireless six axis controller is one of the few that do not have a vibration feedback. This is something unique as both Nintendo and Microsoft have made the vibration standard for their controllers, whereas Sony has made a difference to it by adding motion control which can perceive different movements of six kinds. This has made life much more comfortable by Sony, for it is not necessary for people to get up and turn the PS3 on and off as this is the purpose of the PS button. Besides this the L2/R2 buttons have been changed to triggers and it does take some time to get used to these. These L2/R2 shoulder buttons were not used initially but for shooting games, however now with the racing games they are the main components to be used.
Some changes in the functions
Earlier it was the X button that represented the throttle, but now it is the R2 especially for racing games. It is only after experiencing this change that one will realize that it is much more comfortable than the earlier version and also more enjoyable. This is also a few ounces lighter and makes it much more comfortable to use for hours on end. With continuous use for over 5 days the battery is still almost completely charged. While playing this game for many hours, what is important is the feel and not the vibration or the motion control. There is no Rumble feature in the PS3 controller and better still it is lighter and smaller than other controllers as it does not have the motor and weights which the Rumble feature needs. Above all the Sixaxis battery has a longer life which comes without the vibration.
When completely charged the battery of the Sixaxis is operational for almost 30 hours. Initially it was thought that the battery cannot be replaced and the manufacturers wanted to offer an exchange facility if the battery after a long use is run down. However, it was later found out that there were instructions included on the removal of the battery and it was possible to change it.
The new Dual Shock 3 which has been released is cheaper and the sixaxis may go out of the market. But the sixaxis is still a much more versatile controller and will be missed in the market if it does go out. Sony has announced this change and the DualShock3 will be the Playstation3 controller henceforth and will have the same design and functions as the Sixaxis. The only difference being that it will have the vibration capability and the software patches for this were also made available.
